about us:
- The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) was established in 1986 as a registered society. The RCI Act was passed by Parliament in September 1992 and it became a statutory body on 22 June 1993. The Act was amended by Parliament in 2000 to make it more comprehensive. The mandate given to the RCI is to regulate and monitor the services provided to persons with disabilities, standardize courses and maintain a central rehabilitation register of all qualified professionals and personnel working in the field of rehabilitation and special education. The Act also provides for punitive action against unqualified persons providing services to persons with disabilities.

Objective of Rehabilitation Council 2024:
- To regulate training policies and programmes in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities
- To standardize training courses for professionals dealing with persons with disabilities
- To lay down minimum standards of education and training for various categories of professionals/personnel engaged in work related to persons with disabilities
- To regulate these standards uniformly across all training institutes across the country
- To recognize the Institutions/Organizations/Universities offering Master’s Degree/Bachelor’s Degree/PGDiploma/Diploma/Certificate courses in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
- Recognition of degrees/diplomas/certificates awarded by foreign universities/institutions on reciprocal basis
- To promote research in rehabilitation and special education
- Maintaining Central Rehabilitation Register for registration of professionals/personnel
- To collect information on a regular basis on education and training in the field of rehabilitation of disabled persons from institutions in India and abroad.
- To promote continuing education in the field of rehabilitation and special education by collaborating with organizations working in the field of disability.
- Recognition of Vocational Rehabilitation Centres as Manpower Development Centres
- Registration of vocational trainers and other personnel working in vocational rehabilitation centres
- Recognizing National Institutes on Disability and Apex Institutions as Manpower Development Centres
- Registration of personnel working in national institutions and apex disability related institutions under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
